Parl Panel visits Hudhud-affected Ganjam

HudhudThe Parliament Standing Committee on Ministry of Home Affairs visited cyclone-hit villages in Ganjam district on Friday. The six-member committee headed by its chairman P Bhattacharya reviewed the relief and rehabilitation measures taken by the state government in aftermath of cyclone – Phailin and Hudhud.

On October 12, 2013, cyclone Phailin hit Odisha and Ganjam had been one of the worst hit districts. Showing alertness, the district officials of Ganjam had evacuated the coastal villages and sheltered them at relief centres and safer places before cyclone Hudhud hit Visakhapatnam town in Andhra Pradesh on October 12, 2014.

The members of the committee visited cyclone shelter centre at Kanamana and interacted with its maintenance committee. They also visited the housing sites at Narayanpur and Upulaputi near Gopalpur-on sea. The cyclone-proof houses were constructed under the World Bank aided Odisha Disaster Recovery Project (ODRP).

The members had meeting with district administration officials over the measures taken during the natural calamities in Gopalpur. They also interacted with cyclone-hit people about their problems. Today, the committee members are likely to discuss with state government officials in Bhubaneswar.
