Puri Custodial Death: Orissa High Court Seeks Report from Govt

The Orissa High Court, on Friday, sought a detailed report from the Odisha Government on the alleged Puri custodial death of an accused. The Government has been asked to submit its report on Monday, which is the next date of hearing.

The Court issued the directive acting upon a PIL filed by lawyer Sarat Kumar Rayguru, who pleaded for a High-Court monitored probe into the matter.

The case pertains to the death of one K Ramesh of Puri town, who was allegedly picked up from his home by the police on Wednesday night. He body was then found at the district headquarters hospital in Puri.

His family has alleged that Ramesh died due to police excesses.
