The Puri Jagannath Temple will remain closed for the devotees for 4 hours today. The devotees will not be able to pay their holy visits due to ‘Banaka Lagi’ ritual.
The ritual is performed in concealment away from people. The devotees are barred to offer a holy visit of the Trinity between 4 pm to 8 pm.
Since the ritual will be carried out in secrecy, only a few servitors are allowed to perform the ritual. The entire process takes five to six hours.
The Banakalagi is a holy ritual which is conducted seven to eight times annually in which fresh colours are applied to the idols.
Devotees will be allowed entry after completion of the process.
