Puri Violence: Locals to be allowed into Srimandir without Queue

ONI Bureau: After the unprecedented violence and vandalism in Puri during the bandh today over ‘queue system’ or ‘dhadi darshan’, the Puri Administration-Peace Committee meeting has decided to allow the locals to enter the Srimandir using the other 3 gates without queue. However, they need to produce ID cards.

While there won’t be the queue restrictions for the Puri-based devotees, the outsiders may have a tough time. This decision is not seen as a perfect solution and may lead to further discontent among the devotees over discrimination between locals and non-locals.

Earlier in the day, the Jagannath Sena along with some Sevayats and local devotees created havoc in Puri by damaging public properties. They also attacked Minister Maheswar Mohanty’s residence and SJTA office while pelting stones at SP’s residence.

CCTV footage of violence is being reviewed by the IG and action will be taken accordingly.
