Rajkanika locals oppose Govt move of soil collection to build Martyrs’ Tower

ONI Bureau: The State Government’s move to collect soil from villages of martyrs to build a martyrs’ tower in Bhubaneswar was being opposed by the locals in Kendrapara district.

Reportedly, as per the instruction of the State Freedom Fighters Association (SFFA) and rulling BJD, some unidentified persons secretly collected soil from the memorials of martyrs Basu Sethi and Bisuni Madhual, without prior concern of families of the martyrs.

Following which a complaint was filed against Mahakalpara MLA Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak for allegedly supporting the soil collection. The Kanika Shahid Smruti Sansad also today observed a bandh at Rajkanika in this regard.

Worth mentioning, both the freedom fighters were martyred by the British on April 23, 1922 during the non-cooperation movement at Meghapur village under Rajkanika block.
