Ramesh Majhi seeks to expedite Jeypore-Malkangiri-Nabarangpur Railway Projects

indian railwayState Transport Minister Ramesh Majhi has sent a letter to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu regarding the Jeypore-Malkangiri and Jeypore-Nabarangpur railway projects. He requested Railway Minister to discuss with state government in this matter.

Notably, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had discussion with Union Railway Minister last year on April 16. He said that railway infrastructure in Odisha remained inadequate with seven tribal districts dominated by Naxals not having railway line.

He further said two railway line projects, Jeypore-Nabarangpur and Jeypore-Malkangiri, which will cover Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur districts, should be provided adequate funds in 2015-16 Budget. But Jaipur-Malkangiri and Jaipur-Nabarangpur railway route got only Rs 1 lakh per head.

The State Government has sent a letter to Centre in 2014, proposing to bear 50 per cent construction cost along with free land for Jeypore-Nabarangpur line and 25 per cent construction cost for Jeypore-Malkangiri line.
