Renowned Odia litterateur Annada Prasad Ray passes away

Annada Prasad RayRenowned litterateur Annada Prasad Ray passed away following a cardiac arrest at his residence in Cuttack on Tuesday. He was 79. He is survived by his son Lagnajit Ray and daughter-in-law Kasturi Ray

Born in January 14, 1937, at Mangalapur village in Jajpur district, Ray had authored several short stories and novels.  Some of his famous literary works include ‘Rudra Samudra’ ‘Upanyasa Kathantara’ ‘Matira Luha’, ‘Ya Devi’, ‘Balaya’, ‘Airabata’, ‘Dhama’,  ‘Ajana Gachhara Maya’, ‘Poushara Parthana’, ‘Rai Ra Chithi’ , ‘Sunayana’ etc.

Ray’s autobiography ‘Muthae Jibna Angulae Smruti’ has been widely acclaimed by one and all.

For his outstanding contribution in the field of Odia literature, Ray was conferred several awards such as Sarala Samman, Sahitya Ratna Samman, Vyasa Kabi Fakir Mohan Samman, Galpa Gaurab Samman, Indo-Soviet Literary Award etc.

Apart from his literary genius, Ray earned name and fame in various capacities in the field of journalism and politics. He worked as the editor of an Odia news magazine ‘Agniveena’ as well as an Odia daily ‘Matrubhumi’.

In case of politics, Ray was the president of undivided Cuttack district Congress Committee and General Secretary of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee.

People from different field such as writers, novelist, journalists, politicians and academicians of Odisha and outside mourned the demise of Ray. His literary works are unparalleled, which will remain be immortal among the readers and others.
