Repair of Jagamohana; Test digging begins today

jagannathTempleThe repair work of Jagamohana of the Shree Jagannath temple, Puri started today. In the presence of Shree Mandir Technical Core Committee (SMTCC) test digging of its floor started.

Dharmapada Mishra member of the SMTCC have informed repoters that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will estimate the depth of the holes to be dug for the foundation of the steel structures and accordingly send an estimate to the ASI DG.

Prof Gupta, chairman of ASI’s core committee during his visit to the temple on March 29 said that repair of the Jagamohana cannot be delayed further. He is an expert in archaeology and a former professor of Kharagpur IIT.

The stones holding the Jagamohana have numerous cracks and this was found after whitewash was removed from them.
