Several Maoists killed in Encounter in Chitrakonda

Maoists-OdishaSeveral Maoists are believed to be killed, as the fierce encounter between the red rebels and the joint team of Special Operations Group (SOG) of Odisha and Greyhound force of Andhra Pradesh police. Some put the death toll at 5, while others claim that the casualties could be high, as Maoists are on back foot now.

The security forces launched a massive operation on the Maoists yesterday based on the intelligence reports that the naxals were running training camps at Vejingi and Pingapuram in the cut-off areas along the Chitrakonda reservoir.

When they confronted the Maoists, exchange of fire began, which still continues in the dense forests. The security forces are said to have an upperhand, inflicting heavy casualties on the other side. Top Maoist leader and central committee member of the party Ramakrishna alias RK is the main target. He was reportedly present when the firing started.
