Case against 25 Slum Dwellers for beating up Cops in Bhubaneswar

Police-PublicThe local residents of Haladi Padia Slum in Laxmisagar area of Bhubaneswar, blocked the roads and took the law into their hand, while beating up the policemen black and blue over filing of an FIR against a person, accused of illicit affair with a woman in the same slum.

According to reports, the cops detained the man accused of illicit affair and making a girl pregnant, but let him off the hook later. Despite repeated pleas from the man’s wife and others, they did not lodge an FIR.

When the man reached the slum upon his release from detention, he was overpowered by a group of people in the slum and was being interrogated when the policemen arrived to rescue him. The local women and men had an heated argument with the cops followed by a violent clash. Sub-Inspector Ashok Hansda and his team bore the brunt of the angry mob. Even, IIC Rajat Rai was not spared by the residents while he was trying to diffuse the situation.

A case has been registered against 25 people, including many women. The police is targeting main accused Saila Ranasingh, who led the mob to attack the policemen. The Police Association in Odisha has demanded strong action against the guilty people, who took the law into their hand and brutally assaulted the cops on duty.
