Special Vigilance Court sentences jail term to Ex-OHPC Official, Wife

Juvenile CourtBhubaneswar, Sep 30: Bhubaneswar Special Vigilance Court sentenced 3 years and 1 year imprisonment to a former official of Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) and his wife respectively in disproportionate assets case.

According to reports, the court awarded jail terms to Dilip Mahanty, former deputy manager of OPHC and his wife Krushnapriya Mohanty hearing the case here today.

The Crime Branch officials had recovered disproportionate assets worth Rs 1.78 crore during raid on house of Mohanty in 2004. Following which a case was registered by Crime Branch against Dilip Mohanty and his wife.

Finding them guilty of amassing assets worth around Rs 42, 31, 600, which they had failed to substantiate the income source of the amount, the court awarded jail terms to duo.

The court sentenced Dilip Mohanty to three years rigorous imprisonment including fine of Rs.10 lakh, upon failing to deposit the fine he would undergo additional jail term for 15 months.  The court sentenced one year jail term and fine of Rs.50, 000 to Krushnapriya Mohanty for assisting his husband. The couple said that they would challenge the decision at higher court.
