Supreme Court grants bail to OJM Leader Sangram Mohanty

Supreme Court on Criminal Past of MPs, MLAsOdisha Jan Morcha (OJM) leader Sangram Mohanty, son of Maoist mediator Dandapani Mohanty, was finally granted bail by the Supreme Court. Sangram was released from Berhampur Jail today. His family members and OJM founder Pyari Mohan Mohapatra were present when Sangram walked out of the prison.

Sangram Mohanty, the Convener of Jana Adhikar Manch (JAM), was arrested by the Odisha Police on December 5, 2012. At least 15 cases were files against him, including Maoist links.

Pyari Mohan Mohapatra claimed that Sangram Mohanty and his father Dandapani Mohanty, were harassed only after the former joined his party. “I ask the Naveen Niwas not to dare of arresting Sangram Mohanty again,” he said.

“I was falsely implicated in Maoist cases. I have complete trust in judiciary. I will fight and win the battle to get justice,” said Sangram Mohanty.

His father Dandapani Mohanty, who always worked as an interlocutor in many cases related to Maoist activities, was arrested on February 8, 2013 on charges of Maoist activities. At least 22 cases were filed against him. He has got bail in 18 cases, but still languishing in jail.
