Suspended Mines Deputy Director arrested in Bhubaneswar

The Odisha Vigilance Cell has arrested Manas Ranjan Mohanty, the former Deputy Director of Mines (DDM), who had been on the run in connection with the multi-crore Uliburu mining scam. Mohanty, who was arrested in Bhubaneswar, was later produced in the the Special Vigilance Court in Keonjhar.

The Special Vigilance Court of Keonjhar had declared five suspended Odisha Mining Department officials as absconders in the Uliburu scam and asked them to appear in the court by September 11 in order to avoid confiscation of their properties.

The state Vigilance has already filed charge sheets against 29 people, including main accused Deepak Gupta. The state government had suspended 16 officials, including two IFS officers for siphoning off Rs 2,000 crore.
