To add to our worries is the poverty scenario of the state. Our State’s economy exhibited an average annual growth rate of 8.2 percent during the 10th plan (2002-07) period.

The economy grew in real terms during the 11th plan period. The growth rate of Odisha economy during 2014-15 has been 8.78 percent. We have surpassed other States significantly in some areas. Odisha is the first state to launch the National Rural livelihoods Mission in its bid to bring down rural poverty by promoting diversified and gainful self-employment to the rural poor. Odisha has the distinction of achieving maximum poverty reduction by 24.6% during 2004 to 2011-12. The number of people below poverty line has declined considerably in 2015-16. Poverty declined in all regions and among all social classes such as SC, ST, OBC and others. This confirms the inclusive growth objective of the State.
