Top Ganjam Congress Leaders quit Party; to join BJD

ONI Bureau: As expected, senior Congress leaders of Ganjam district have quit the party and would join the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) during CM Naveen Patnaik’s visit to the district on April 4.

Former Union Minister Chandrasekhar Sahu, Senior leader and PCC General Secretary Bikram Panda, District Congress President Bhagaban Gantayat, Berhampur Nagar Congress President Sanjit Panigrahi, District Chhatra Congress President Tapas Sahu, District Mahila Congress leader G. Pushpavati and Chhatrapur Block Congress President Tapas Bisoyi submitted their resignation letters to Congress President Rahul Gandhi and PCC President Prasad Harichandan.

While there has been a buzz for over a month about the possibility of these leaders quitting the Congress and joining the BJD, the party received a major setback as it became official today.

Once considered as Congress’ fort, Ganjam has virtually become Congress-mukt today.
