Two get life imprisonment for kidnapping Ex-Malkangiri Collector

crime2The Additional District Court and Sessions Judge has sentenced life imprisonment to two persons who were involved in the kidnapping of Ex-Malkangiri Collector R Vineel Krishna on February, 2011.

The Court awarded life imprisonment to Tapan Shah who is a government servant and a woman maoist M. Divya. However, another accused  Ghasiram Pangi was acquitted due to lack of evidence.

The former DGP Manmohan Praharaj said, it was very difficult to grab the miscreants after the release of Vineel Krishna. The Odisha Police took the help of Andhra Pradesh police and neighbouring states. They managed to nab the two and made them appear in the court.

The extremists kidnapped Krishna while he was on the way to district headquarters. He went on the tour to attend gram panchayat-level single window camps which were on the interior border areas of Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. He was also accompanied by a junior engineer.

Later they released the junior engineer with a letter of demand to release some maoists and to stop the operations of the security personnel.
