Under Fire, Maoists clarify on killing of DD Cameraman Achyuta Nanda Sahu

ONI Bureau: Criticised and condemned for killing the Doordarshan Cameraman Achyuta Nanda Sahu near Aranpur in Dantewada of Chhattisgarh district, the Maoists issued a clarification saying they were unaware of DD team’s presence.

While justifying their attack on security forces and targeting the Chhattisgarh Govt accusing them of inflicting atrocities on innocent tribals, the Maoist poster termed the killing of Achyuta Nanda Sahu as ‘unfortunate’.

“We retreat the death of Achyuta Nanda Sahu. We would never target Journalists deliberately. There has been an attempt by the Govt to malign us. We reject the allegations our attack was on DD Crew. It was aimed at the security personnel. We also request our journalist friends not to travel with security forces”, they said.

However Dantewada SP Abhishek Pallav said that camera of Journalist Achyuta Nanda Sahu was looted because it had recorded evidence of what happened in first few minutes of targeted media ambush.Multiple bullet wounds and skull fractures on the martyred cameraman in no ways indicates it was by mistake, Dantewada SP stated.
