Vani Vihar Students block NH-5 following Murderous Attack on Inmates

Vani-Vihar-violenceMassive protests occurred in the evening today after some unidentified miscreants entered the Vani Vihar Campus despite heavy police presence and hacked two students. Both are critically inured and being treated at Apollo Hospital and SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.

Angry students led by Vani Vihar President Rajesh Raj Swain and other leaders, blocked the NH-5 near Vani Vihar Square for over an hour. They burnt the tyres and stopped the vehicular movement. Police Commissioner Dr. RP Sharma and DCP Satyabrata Bhoi had a tough time to end the impasse. The students relented and ended the blockade following an assurance from the top cops.

According to the DCP, the injured are out of danger now. At least three people have been detained in connection with today’s attack. Efforts are on to identify the non-students inside the Campus and enhance security across the University.

The tension and clashes began last night, with two groups of students attacking each other. The group belonging to ABVP staged a dharna in front of Sahid Nagar Police Station, while the BJD leaders gheraoed the DCP office, seeking restoration of law and order in Utkal University.
