Vice-President, PM Extend Nuakhai Wishes To Odisha People

Vice-President of India M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended wishes to the people of Odisha on the occasion of Nuakhai. VP Naidu tweeted in Odia and wished for peace and prosperity to the people.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted his wish. “The special occasion of Nuakhai is about celebrating the hardwork of our farmers. It is due to their efforts that our nation is fed. May this auspicious day bring prosperity and good health for everyone. Nuakhai Juhar!” he wrote.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also took to twitter to extend Nuakhai greetings.

Nuakhai is an agrarian festival Nuakhai in which food grain is worshiped. Mostly people of Western Odisha observe the festival. The word ‘Nua’ means ‘new’ and ‘khai’ means food.

People thank the presiding deity during the festival for a bumper harvest. Nuakhai is believed to have nine colours. Hence, nine set of rituals are followed. They are –

  1. Beheren 
  2. Lagna dekha 
  3. Daka haka 
  4. Sapha sutura and lipa puchha 
  5. Ghina bika 
  6. Nua dhan khuja 
  7. Bali paka 
  8. Nuakhai
  9. Juhar bhetgat

This year, however, the festive spirit has been dampened by the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
