Wheeler Island in Odisha renamed after Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam

The Wheeler Island, which houses the Integrated Test Range ITR) at Chandipur off the Odisha Coast, has been renamed after former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. It was announced by ‪Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik.

Wheeler Island is the prime missile testing facility of India. All missiles, including Agni, Prithvi, BrahMos, Akash, Prahaar, Shaurya, Trishul etc. are being tested from the ITR here. Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik was urged last month to rename the Wheeler Island after the ‘Missile Man of India’, which he accepted.

Earlier, the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) had renamed Aurangzeb Road in New Delhi as APJ Abdul Kalam Road.
