While Scindia fails, Tathagata impresses during JNU Debate in LS

Tathagata-Satpathy-JNUA lot was expected from the Congress Party and Rahul Gandhi during the debate on JNU and Rohith Vemula in Lok Sabha, but the Gandhi scion stayed away from it for mysterious reasons. He deployed Jyotiraditya Scindia, who largely disappointed. While Anurag Thakur and Smirit Irani led BJP’s charge, it was Tathagata Satpathy from BJD, who saved the day for the Opposition with his independent and balanced view with an intellectual touch.

Yes, he was critical of the government for failing the students in the country. Tathagata believes situation was not properly handled and allowed to go out of hand. Not surprisingly, he put the onus on the government, who is riding high on a massive popular mandate, yet fumbles while taking right decisions at the right time.

He began with the statement, “the youth of this country does not deserve us. We are the most undeserving set of people”. Everyone was stunned and speechless to hear this, but he did not stop and went on to justify his statement. “Students look up to the government with the hope that it would resolve all issues and fulfill their aspirations, but to no avail”, was his regret.

“Nationalism reminds me of Benito Mussolini from Italy. I am a patriot. I travel the world, but don’t lose touch with my country, my constituency and my people,” he said. He targeted the Congress for politicising the Afzal Guru issue and minced no words to declare that the Parliament attack convict as a ‘scoundrel’ and said he was given a fair trial by the Indian Judiciary.

“Why the BJP did not care even though such pro-Afzal events were organised in the past too? Why the patriots and nationalists were silent? Why they suddenly woke up? The JNU issue and Jat quota stir was hyped to hide this government’s failure on governance part,” he said.

Tathagata Satpathy came down heavily on the NDA Government on various issues such as price rise and depreciation of Rupee against Dollar. “The government must provide good governance to the country and focus on real issues,” he added.
