Workshop @ Market for Odisha MSME Products

Odisha-MSME-Products workshop on “International Market opportunities for Odisha MSME Products” was jointly organised by the Directorate of Export Promotion & Marketing Odisha Bhubaneswar and World Trade Centre, Bhubaneswar on the eve of closing ceremony of Odisha MSME Trade Fair-2015 at IDCO Exhibition Ground on 14.01.2015.  The workshop was inaugurated by Shri Panchanan Dash, Secretary, MSME Department.

In his inaugural address Shri Dash  informed that the State Government have notified, the State Export Policy-2014 to double the export figure within a span of 10 years at an annual growth rate of 10% per annum. Prior to 2011-12, more than 50% of the export from Odisha was contributed by export of minerals. Not much credit should go for such export with value addition in the State facilitating employment generation and revenue augmentation. It is to note that, the situation has now changed.

The export of Metallurgical, marine and electronics products has now exceeded 62% of the total export of the State. The export from 2012-13 to 2013-14 has grown by more than 52% against the target of 10% growth in export policy. We in the State have to create an atmosphere where manufacturing sector grows creating massive employment, scope for export.

He told that all sorts of efforts are being made for encouraging export from the State.  In his key note address Shri B.K. Dash, Director, Export Promotion & Marketing, Odisha has informed that Odisha has all the potential to become a leading State in export in the Country by virtue of its locational advantage and vast natural resources along with 480 kms of long coast line.  The export potential in the sectors like Minerals, Marine, Agriculture, IT, Handloom Textile and Handicrafts, Engineering and Allied Products can make Odisha a leading exporting State of the Country.

In his welcome address Shri A.O. Kuruvilla, Deputy Director, WTC, Mumbai laid stress on availing the facilities provided by the WTC, Bhubaneswar Branch so far as international market opportunities for the entrepreneurs of Odisha is concerned.  He also informed that international market information will be made available to the exporters of Odisha through their network of 330 WTC Branches in over 100 countries.

In the technical session, Prof. A.N. Khedkar delivered a valuable power point presentation on the entire process of export business and how to become success in international business.  Without any natural resources a small country like Japan has become a successful economy in the world due to manufacturing of value added products.  But with abundant natural resources India is lagging much behind in international trade.  So, Prof. Khadker advised the entrepreneurs to make value added products and explore the international business opportunities.

Shri N. Palai, Director of Industries, Cuttack in his address described about the importance of agri based exportable products.  He called upon the entrepreneurs to take advantage of the recently announced  Odisha Food Processing Policy for manufacturing of export oriented agri products.

In the interaction session, Shri Swagat Maharana of KASAM, Kandhamal explained how to become a successful exporter with the help of Govt. Agencies like Directorate of EP&M and MSME Department and could able to export the spices of Kandhamal to USA.

In the end, Shri B.K. Dash, Additional Director, Industries and Ms. Nimeshika Nataranjan, Manager, WTC, Bhubaneswar gave vote of thanks to the participants attended in the workshop.
