1-2 loss to Kiwis mars India’s Azlan Shah Cup Campaign

New-Zealand-IndiaA 2-2 draw against South Korea in the opening match and a shocking 1-2 loss against New Zealand in the second game, marred India’s chances at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup Hockey in Ipoh. The Indian team will now take on a spirited Malaysia in their third league match tomorrow.

Under new Chief Coach Paul van Ass, India are still looking for their first victory in the tournament. Against New Zealand, India were in possession of the ball most of the times and even dominated the proceedings. But, their sloppy defending and poor attacking style cost them the match.

New Zealand took the lead in the 38th minute through a field goal from skipper Simon Child. India scored the equaliser through Akashdeep Singh in the 43rd minute. However, Andy Hayward (55th) converted a late penalty corner to seal the match.
