Union Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has assured all help to Boxer Sarita Devi, who was banned by the International Boxing Association (AIBA) for the medal controversy at Incheon Asian Games 2014. The government will write to the AIBA to revove the ban on Sarita, said the Minister.
Sarita Devi was penalised by the AIBA for refusing to accept the bronze medal. She lost a controversial semifinal bout against her Korean opponent Park Ji-Na despite dominating the match completely. The judges were unfair and biased, but Sarita protested against their decision and even refused the medal during the medal ceremony.
She later apologised for her emotional outburst and accepted the medal handed out to her. But, the AIBA wanted to set a precedent for others and imposed a one-year ban on the Manipuri Boxer.
