Australia’s Glenn Maxwell in doubt for 5th ODI

Glenn MaxwellSydney, Jan 21: Australia’s hard-hitting batsman Glenn Maxwell’s condition will be monitored and assessed before the fifth and final One-Day International (ODI) after he copped a blow to his right knee during Wednesday’s win over India in Canberra, Cricket Australia said on Thursday. The final game of the series is at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday.

Maxwell was struck on the right knee during the early stages of his entertaining and crucial cameo at the Manuka Oval, the ball striking him in an unprotected area as he bent his right leg in an attempt to work a ball from Ishant Sharma on the leg side.

The all-rounder, on 13 at the time, was clearly in some discomfort as he scampered a single but pushed on to finish with six boundaries and a six in his 20-ball innings that produced 41 runs.

He started India’s run chase fielding at first slip and did manage to bowl one over, which went for 10, before he was replaced by substitute fielder Shaun Marsh.

Cricket Australia said the blow had caused some swelling and discomfort in Maxwell’s knee and that he would be assessed in the coming days. (IANS)
