Azlan Shah Cup: 1st Win for India, beat Canada 5-3

India-Canada-HockeyIndia, which almost crashed out of the summit clash at Sultan Azlan Shah Cup Hockey tournament, finally registered their first win in the tournament with a 5-3 victory over Canada. Although India scored 5 goals, the shaky defence conceded three goals against a lowly-ranked team, which could be a big concern for the team when they take on Australia.

Rupinder Pal Singh (13th minute), VR Raghunath (32nd) Ramanadeep Singh (46th, 47th) and Satbir Singh (49th) scored the goals for India. The first two goals were off penalty corners, while the last three were field goals.

For Canada, Oliver Scholfield (43rd), Jagdish Gill (49th) and David Jameson (52nd) were the goal-scorers. India are ranked 9th in the world, while Canada are currently placed at 15th position. India had earlier held South Korea to a 2-2 draw in the first match, but lost to Malaysia 2-3 in the second match.
