Dhawan powers India to 5th Straight Win at 2015 World Cup

Shikhar Dhawan hit a magnificent 100, as India defeated Ireland by 8 wickets to register their 5th consecutive win in 2015 World Cup. With this victory, India continue to remain unbeaten in this tournament. They will play their last league match against Zimbabwe on March 14.

Earlier, Ireland won the toss and elected to bat first. They posted 259 in 49 overs. Porterfield (67), Stirling (42), Niall O’Brien (75) and Balbirnie (24) were the top scorers. Shami took three wickets, while Ashwin took two wickets.

Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma added 174 runs in 23.2 overs for the first wicket. That laid the foundation for India’s victory. Rohit Sharma made 64, while Dhawan was out for 100. He hit 11 boundaries and 5 sixes in his 85-ball knock. Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 44, while Rahane remained not out on 33.

India reached 260/2 in 36.5 overs. Stuart Thompson took both the wickets. Dhawan was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
