Heartbreak for Kohli, as India lose Adelaide Test

Nathan-LyonIndia was heading towards a famous victory in Adelaide when Murali Vijay and Virat Kohli were on the crease. Kohli even created history by becoming the second batsman in history to score two hundreds in a Test on captaincy debut. However, he let India down when it mattered the most and conceded the match to the Kangaroos.

From 242/2, India slumped to a terrible collapse, thanks to Nathan Lyon’s excellent magical spin bowling. Murali Vijay was out for 99, while Ajinkaya Rahane got a dubious decision. Virat Kohli threw his wicket to a poor shot at 141. And, that was all over for Team India. They bowled out for 315 chasing a victory target of 364 and lost the match by 48 runs.  Australia had declared their second innings at 290/5.

Nathan Lyon was the man responsible for India’s sorry plight. He had taken five wickets in the first innings. He added seven more to his tally in the second innings. He was the ‘Man of the Match’ and ‘Man of the Moment’ too. Apart from Kohli and Vijay, no other Indian batsmen showed any resistance. Mitchell Johnson took two wickets. India lost the last 8 wickets for just 73 runs in post-Tea session.
