HWL 2017: Argentina beat India 1-0 to storm into Final

ONI Bureau: It’s a big disappointment for the players as well as the massive crowd which braved heavy downpour to arrive at the Kalinga Stadium to cheer Team India in the semifinal match against World No. 1 and Olympic Champion Argentina! Argentina overcame the challenge from a spirited Indian team to storm into the finals of Hockey World League 2017.

The scoreline read as 1-0 in Argentina’s favour. But, if we look at the big assault launched by Team India in the last quarter, one gets the feeling that scoreline would be 3-1 in India’s favour.

The team did well and put the Argentinians under tremendous pressure, but failed to breach their defence. The lone goal of the match came in the 17th minute through a penalty corner converted by Gonzalo Peillat.

India will now play the loser of the second semifinal between Australia & Germany to be held tomorrow. The Bronze medal match will be held Sunday.
