India beat West Indies by an innings and 272 runs in Rajkot Test

ONI Bureau:  India registered their biggest innings victory in Test cricket, as they thrashed the West Indies by an innings & 272 runs in the first Test match in Rajkot. The previous best was an innings & 262 runs win against Afghanistan in June 2018. The Test ended in just less than 3 days.

Earlier, India declared the first innings at 649/9. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant missed out on a hundred, as he scored 92. But, skipper Virat Kohli hit his 24th Test hundred. He scored 139. Ravindra Jadeja scored his maiden Test hundred and remained unbeaten on 100. Prithvi Shaw had scored 134 yesterday. For West Indies, Devendra Bishoo took 4 wickets, while Sherman Lewis took 2 wickets.

West Indies bowled out for 181 in the first innings. Roston Chase (53) and Keemo Paul (47) were the top scorers. Ravichandran Ashwin took 4 wickets, while Mohammed Shami took 4 wickets. India enforced follow-on making the Indies bat again.

Situation was no different for the West Indies in the second innings too and they bundled out for 196. Kieran Powell was the only batsman who showed resistance. He scored 83 off 93 balls with 8 boundaries and 4 sixes. For India, Kuldeep Yadav took 5 wickets, while Jadeja bagged 3. Ashwin got two wickets.

Kuldeep Yadav becomes 2nd Indian bowler after Bhuvneshwar Kumar to get five-wicket haul in each of the three formats (ODI, T20 & Tests).  Prithvi Shaw, who was the youngest Indian to score a Test hundred on debut, has been declared the ‘Player of the Match’.
