India go down to Australia, finish 4th in CT2014

India-AustraliaAfter a shocking defeat against Pakistan in the semifinals last night, Team India went down to World Champions Australia in the play-off to finish fourth in the Champions Trophy Hockey tournament.

Australia, which won the last five editions of the Champions Trophy, had to content with a bronze medal this time. Eddie Ockenden scored the first goal for Australia in the 19th minute. Lalit Upadhyay scored the equaliser in the 42nd minute.

Matt Gohdes scored the winning goal for Australia in the 52nd minute to give the team a bronze medal. India failed to break the jinx, as they won their only bronze medal at the Champions Trophy way back in 1982.

The Netherlands defeated Argentina to finish 5th, while England beat Belgium to secure the 7th spot.
