India may bid for 2024 Olympics

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to meet International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach, when the later visits New Delhi on April 27, to discuss India’s likely bid for the 2024 Olympic Games.

Sports Secretary Ajit Mohan Sharan visited Lausanne, Switzerland in last week and had a discussion with key IOC officials in this regard and invited Bach to visit India in April.

The Prime Minister has earlier expressed his idea to build all necessary infrastructures for the development of sports and games to make India a Sports powerhouse.

India has never hosted the Olympics. Brazil and Japan will host the Olympic Games in the year of 2016 and 2020 respectively.
