India win Vizag ODI; clinch Series vs Sri Lanka 2-1

ONI Bureau: A clinical performance by Team India in the third and final ODI in Vizag, helped India to clinch the ODI series against Sri Lanka 2-1. The young team led by Rohit Sharma recovered after the debacle in 1st ODI and they registered this series win in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli.

Earlier, India won the toss and opted to bowl. Sri Lanka bowled out for 215 in 44.5 overs. Upul Tharanga was the top scorer with 95, while Sadeera Samarawickrama made 42. For India, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal took 3 wickets each. Hardik Pandya took 2 wickets.

While chasing the target, India lost Rohit Sharma early. But, Shikhar Dhawan led the charge and powered India to a 8-wicket victory with his 100* off 85 balls. Shreyas Iyer scored 65. Dinesh Karrthik remained not out on 26.

India reached 219/2 in 32.1 overs. Kuldeep Yadav was declared ‘Player of the Match’, while Shikhar Dhawan was declared ‘Player of the Series’. Interestingly, India haven’t lost a bilateral series in any format in 2017.
