Indian Women’s Hockey Team secure Olympic Beth after 36 Years

Indian-Women-Hockey-TeamOn the auspicious occasion of Hockey Wizard Major Dhayan Chand’s Birth Anniversary, the Indian Women’s Hockey team created history by qualifying for the Olympics after a long gap of 36 years.

Although they had already taken the right step forward, thanks to their 5th position finish at the Hockey World League Semifinals in Antwerp, Belgium in July 2015, they got the confirmation last night when England defeated Spain in the semi-finals of the EuroHockey Championships in London.

The winner of the EuroHockey Championships will qualify for the 2016 Olympics. The final will be held between England and the Netherlands. As both teams have already qualified for the Rio Olympics, India got automatically qualified at the expense of Spain.

Apart from India, South Korea, Argentina, Great Britain, China, Germany, Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand and the USA are the other teams that have made it to Rio Olympics 2016.
