India’s Sumit Nagal wins Wimbledon Boy’s Doubles 2015

Sumit NagalThe 17-year-old Sumit Nagal became the 6th Indian to win a Grand Slam junior title, as he won the Wimbledon Open Boy’s Title tonight. Nagal partnered with Nam Hoang Ly (Vietnam).

The duo defeated Reilly Opelka and Akira Santillan 7 -6(4), 6-4 in the title summit that lasted 63 minutes. Yuki Bhambri was the last Indian to win a junior grand slam, when he won the Australian Open Boy’s Singles title in 2009.

Other Indians who won the junior grand slam titles, are – Ramanathan Krishnan (Wimbledon, 1954), Ramesh Krishnan (French Open and Wimbledon, 1979) and Leander Paes (Wimbledon 1990, U.S. Open 1991), Sania Mirza (Wimbledon 2003).
