KISS-Bhubaneswar Rugby Star to join Indian Army

Chhitaranjan-Murmu-KISS-BhubaneswarBhubaneswar, Oct 17: Chhitaranjan Murmu, a +3 Sc. final year student of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), has made tribal community of Odisha proud by being selected in the Indian Army.

A well-known name in the Indian Rugby circuit, Chhitaranjan was selected under Sports Quota (Rugby) and, after joining, he will play Rugby for the Services team.

He has been playing Rugby as a member of KISS team since 2006 and has represented the country in international tournaments on several occasions. He was a member of KISS India Team that won U-14 World Cup Rugby in London in 2007. Later, he represented India in international tournaments in Australia (2008), Laos (2010) and Pakistan (2013). He has also played in numerous national-level tournaments.

Elated at his recruitment in the Indian Army under Sports Quota, Chhitaranjan credited his success to Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS for giving him an opportunity to study in KISS and playing Rugby for the institute. Chhitaranjan, who joined KISS in the year 2000 in Class I, benefited from strong sporting culture of the institute. His talent was spotted early on and he was groomed to play Rugby by Mr. Rudrakesh Jena, Sports Officer of KISS.

Chhitaranjan is from Santal Tribe and belongs to Santoshpur village of Balasore district. He is son of Mr. Katin Murmu and Mrs. Malati Murmu.
