Kohli’s 38th Ton goes in vain, as India lose to West Indies in 3rd ODI

ONI Bureau: Virat Kohli scored his 3rd consecutive hundred in this ODI series against the West Indies and it was his 5th Ton in the last 6 innings. But, his 38th ODI hundred failed to help India win the match, as West Indies scored an easy win to level the 5-match series 1-1 with 2 matches to go. The second ODI had ended in a tie.

Earlier, West Indies posted 283/9 in 50 overs. Shai Hope was the top scorer at 95 with 6 boundaries and 3 sixes. Shimron Hetmyer (37) and Jason Holder (32) were the other contributors. Ashely Nurse played an explosive innings of 40 off 22 balls with 4 boundaries and 2 sixes. For India, Jasprit Bumrah took 4 wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav took 2 wickets.

Chasing a victory target of 284, India lost Rohit Sharma early. Shikhar Dhawan managed to score just 35. Virat Kohli held the fort at one end, but did not get enough support. Rayudu (24) and Rishabh Pant (24) were the other batsmen who started well, but perished. Kohli scored 107, as India bowled out for 240 in 47.4 overs and lost by 43 runs.

For the West Indies, Marlon Samuels took 3 wickets, while Holder, McCoy and Ashley Nurse took 2 wickets each. Ashley Nurse was declared ‘Player of the Match’ for his all-round performance.
