Pujara hits 135*, India finish at 292/8 at Stumps on Day 2

Cheteshwar PujaraColombo, Aug 29: Rain forced an early conclusion of the second day’s proceedings in the third Test with India, aided by opener Cheteshwar Pujara’s sublime unbeaten 135-run knock, at 292/8 against Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) here on Saturday.

Pujara cracked a superb century to shape India’s batting effort, which was in trouble at 119/5 at one stage. Ishant Sharma, who was unbeaten on 2, kept him company.

The umpires called stumps when a late shower forced a delay in the proceedings. The umpires then decided to call off play for the day due to a wet outfield. India scored their 292 runs from 95.3 overs bowled.

Sri Lankan pacer Dhammika Prasad has been the home team’s best bowler so far, returning 83-4 from 23.3 overs when stumps was called on Saturday.
