Punga Soren bags 1st Gold for Odisha in Khelo India School Games

ONI Bureau:  Punga Soren gave Odisha its first gold medal in ‘Khelo India’ School Games in the boys 110m hurdles event clocking 14.12s at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.

Likewise, Pratyasha Ray won bronze medal in 100 mt Girls’ Backstroke Event of first Khelo India School Games. With these two medals, Odisha managed to secure two medals in the ongoing event in New Delhi.

As many as 75 athletes from Odisha were selected from the school games to participate in the first ‘Khelo India’ School Games, reportedly.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated Khelo India School Games with an aim to highlight the country’s sporting talent and its potential to the world.

With nine gold in the ongoing event, Maharashtra had a total of 25 medals as compared to 23 for Haryana and 20 for Karnataka to top the tally.
