Sri Lanka, South Africa knocked out of T20 WC; England reach Semis

Jos ButtlerDefending champions Sri Lanka and favourite South Africa got knocked out of the ICC T20 World Cup, while England became the third team after New Zealand and West Indies to qualify for the semifinals. England beat Sri Lanka by 10 runs.

England had posted 171/4 in 20 overs. Buttler was the top scorer at 66*. Jason Roy scored 42. Root (25) and Morgan (22) were the other top contributors. Vandersay took two wickets.

Thanks to skipper Mathews’ 73*, Sri Lanka tried their best to win, but in vain. From 15/4 at one stage, they managed to reach 161/8 in 20 overs, but that was not enough. Kapugedera (30) and Perera (20) were the other top contributors. Jordan took 4 wickets, while Willey took 2 wickets. Jos Buttler was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
