Sultan Azlan Shah Cup: India go down to Malaysia 2-3

Sultan-Azlan-Shah-CupIndia continued with their disastrous performance at Sultan Azlan Shah Cup Hockey, as they went down to 2-3 to hosts Malaysia in Ipoh. India remained win-less despite playing three matches in this tournament so far.

In the first match, India held South Korea to 2-2, while they lost to New Zealand 1-2. In today’s match, they conceded a goal just two minutes before the final hooter and lost the game. India’s hopes for a podium finish, has taken severe beating with this loss.

Prior to this encounter, India had beaten Malaysia on three previous occasions. India are ranked No. 9 in the world, while Malaysia are ranked No. 12.

Faizal Saari scored the first goal for Malaysia in the 17th minute, while Rupinder Pal scored the equaliser in the 20th minute. Haziq Samsul gave Malaysia the lead again in 35th minute. Rupinder Pal scored the equaliser in the 51st minute. Shahrun Abdullah scored the winning goal with less than two minutes to the close.
