arun JaitleySydney, March 25: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley would be speaking on ‘Reimaging the Indian Economy’ at the Sydney campus of the internationally-ranked S P Jain School of Global Management during his official visit to Australia starting March 29.

John Lodewijks, economics professor at the School, said that India was the “bright economic star” in an otherwise gloomy global economic environment and that the series of initiatives and programmes announced by the Indian government, ranging from Make in India to Digital India to Smart Cities and Skilling India, had the potential of positively impacting the developmental challenges India faces and in opening up opportunities for foreign investment.

School president Nitish Jain said that the minister’s visit would enable him to see the world-class facilities of the School and its unique pedagogy, which lie at the heart of its USP. “For a school that started in 2004 with a campus in Dubai and now present in Singapore, Sydney and Mumbai, it is an achievement to be ranked alongside the best in the world,” he said.

“Minister Jaitley’s visit to Australia would be a significant milestone in bilateral relations and it was an honour for the Sydney campus to be the venue for the first speaking engagement of the minister during his forthcoming visit,’ he added.

Welcoming the opportunity to host the Indian minister, Dr Susan Loomes, head of the Sydney campus, said the students and faculty were hugely excited to welcome him. (IANS)

India-Australia T20Melbourne, Jan 18: The Twenty20 International between Australia and India at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on January 31 will turn pink to support the McGrath Foundation after rain washed out a large part of the annual Commonwealth Bank Sydney Pink Test.

The McGrath Foundation, run by Australian cricket legend Glenn McGrath, set a fundraising total of $380,000 for the Sydney Pink Test — enough to fund one McGrath Foundation Breast Care Nurse for three years — but due to rain fundraising fell short of the target, according to a Cricket Australia (CA) release.

The Foundation’s biggest fundraising day, Jane McGrath Day, named after Glenn’s late wife Jane — day three of the Test — was hit particularly hard by the rain, leading to the least attended Jane McGrath Day since its inception in 2009.

Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland said: “The Pink Test had a goal to raise $380,000 for the McGrath Foundation but the weather prevented us from reaching the total. Despite the constant rain, the cricket community still showed strong support during the Pink Test, helping raise more than $250,000.

“While we can’t control the weather, we do have other international matches ahead, and the third T20 International at the SCG on January 31 will be used to raise important funds and awareness for the McGrath Foundation.

“The match is close to a sell-out, giving thousands of cricket fans the chance to again support this important cause by wearing pink.”

The January 31 match between Australia and India marks the return of T20Is to the SCG.

Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust chief executive Jamie Barkley said: “The SCG Trust is proud of its long-term relationship with Glenn and the McGrath Foundation.

“We’re delighted that the 31 January KFC T20 International between Australia and India will give cricket fans another chance to turn the SCG pink and help the foundation reach its fundraising targets.”

The KFC T20 between Australia and India at the SCG on January 31 is turning pink with the support of long-term CA partner KFC, who are supporting the event in the wake of the rain-affected Pink Test.

McGrath Foundation co-founder and president, Glenn McGrath, said: “The McGrath Foundation is extremely grateful for the generosity and ongoing support of Cricket Australia, the SCG Trust and the Australian cricket community.

“Turning the KFC T20 International pink gives the McGrath Foundation the opportunity to raise much needed funds to continue placing McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities across Australia,” he added. (IANS)

India-Aus-SCGWorld No. 1 Australia won the toss and elect to bat first against India in the second semifinal match at Sydney. Both teams remain unchanged. India and Australia have clashed 10 times in World Cup so far. The Kangaroos won seven times, while India won thrice. The last encounter between two teams in World Cup came in 2011 at the Quarterfinals in Motera. India emerged winner in that epic battle.

While Australia have an edge over India in Sydney with a 12-1 record, they also boast of their unbeaten record at World Cup semifinals. They never lost a semifinal match in World Cup – appeared six times and won all.

After winning the toss, Australian skipper Michael Clarke said, “It’s about enjoying. It’s a big occasion, it’s a special day. We know we are up against a fantastic team, but we love playing here at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The boys are ready to go, they have trained really well. That’s all I can ask for. We are going to have a bat. I think we are about to find out. The wicket looks great. I think it will be pretty good for both innings, runs on the board is the reason why we have gone for batting first. Same XI for us today. I thought Hazlewood) was exceptional. I think he grabbed his opportunity with both hands, the selectors believe this is right XI for these conditions. I am confident if we play our best cricket, we can have success today.”

Indian skipper MS Dhoni said, “I think the way we have transformed from the tri-series, getting into the World Cup was very important for us. All of us are looking good. That’s something that is very important. Everybody has got a chance to bat, bowl, fielding has been good, overall preparation looks good. Not really. I feel it wouldn’t really change much. The toss is something beyond the control, you have to accept it. But, yes we would have also batted first as well. Everyone is fit. So, that’s give us a liberty of playing with the same squad. I think each and every one in a game like this you have to be at your best irrespective of whether you are opening the innings or batting in the middle order. So, get off to a good start, if you get a good start make sure you score big, that is something we always emphasize on. The partnership is more important than individual performance. So, that has been the key for us throughout the World Cup.”

Teams:

Australia: Aaron Finch, David Warner, Steven Smith, Michael Clarke (C), Shane Watson, Glenn Maxwell, Brad Haddin (WK), James Faulkner, Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood.

India: Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni (C/WK), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Mohit Sharma.
