Donald Trump’s National Security Adviser Michael Flynn resigns

Michael FlynnUS President Donald Trump’s national security adviser Michael Flynn resigned late on Monday over controversial contact with Russia.

Flynn had been embroiled in controversy since it was revealed that he had a conversation with a Russian diplomat about sanctions prior to the US President’s administration.

Flynn submitted his resignation only after Trump said through a spokesman that he was reviewing the situation and talking to Vice President Mike Pence. He had promised Pence that he had not discussed sanctions with the Russians but it was later discovered that the subject had come up.

Meanwhile, Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg has been appointed as the acting national security adviser by Trump. Kellogg had previously been appointed as the National Security Council chief of staff and advised Trump during the campaign.
