Russia launches Airstrikes in Northern Syria to crush IS Militants

Russia-SyriaSoon after Russian President Vladimir Putin received parliamentary approval to send their troops to Syria, the military jets carried out airstrikes against the Islamic State (ISIS) group in Northern Syria. However, their operations will be limited to air strikes and Russia may not take part in ground operations.

The airstrikes targeted various positions, vehicles and warehouses of IS militants. The airstrikes were portrayed as a pre-emptive attack against the IS, who now control large parts of Syria and Iraq.

Putin termed ISIS as a big threat to Russia, saying if they succeed in Syria, they could come to Russia too to spread terror. Russia’s airstrike on Syria came following the meeting between US President Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin in New York on Monday.
