Debate: BJP to replace Congress as main Opposition Party in Odisha?

Of late, BJP has emerged stronger in Odisha politics to give a tough fight to the ruling BJD although it lacks strong organisation at the ground level. It may be too early to say, but political pundits believe that BJP may emerge as the main opposition party in Odisha by replacing the Congress.

Prasanna Mishra: It looks likely. BJP would replace BJD in the next Election and form government.

Parama Panda: closely watching politics in rural areas, I am of the view that BJP is growing steadily. the new entrant to politics especially the youth and some congress cadres are moving towards BJP and it seems in next assembly the party may score between 30 to 35 seats pushing the congress to third position. But, it’s too early to predict. Panchayat election in 2017 will give a clear picture to predict for 2019.

Jagadish Pradhan: BJP will always be in same position, they may get 10 more Seats.

Nageswar Rao: BJP is all set to increase its tally in the Assembly, posing a tough challenge to the ruling BJD. Congress suffers from a plethora of drawbacks – lack of strong leadership, deteriorating zeal to go into masses, etc. Modi’s charismatic leadership may boost the morale of BJP cadres in future.

Rabi Narayan Panda: It seems so. But, panchayat election results will tell us the ground reality.

Rahul Barrick: Congress has become fragile. BJP is gaining popularity among the masses. But, eventually BJD will form the govt and BJP will be a tough rival in the opposition.
