Former Union Minister Krishna Tirath joins BJP

After roping in Kiran Bedi, Shazia Ilmi and Vinod Kumar Binny, the BJP managed to create a panic in the opposition camp when former Union Minister and Congress leader Krishna Tirath quit the party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Krishna Tirath, the main woman face of the Congress in Delhi, who also hails from the Dalit community, has kept the Congress unaware of her plans. Congress leader Ajay Maken came to know about her decision only from the TV channels.

The 59-year-old Krishna Tirath met BJP President Amit Shah before joining the saffron party. “This is about ideology. I want to serve people and I have come here with that mindset and that ideology only,” she said. She accused the Congress of ignoring the people’s wishes and neglecting the real issues.

Krishna Tirath had contested the Lok Sabha elections from Delhi last year, but lost to the BJP’s Udit Raj. Interestingly, Udit Raj was present at the press conference where she announced her decision to join the BJP. “Energy should not be wasted. I am here to work for the social well being of the people,” she said.
