All India Motor Transport Congress begins Indefinite Strike

New Delhi, Oct 1: As many as 87 lakh truck owners are on indefinite nation-wide strike from today opposing the current toll system and ‘one time’ payment of taxes. They joined the strike under the banner of All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC).

Truck transporters were called strike following failure of talks with the government over the electronic-toll system. They alleged that electronic-toll system by the December is not possible.

The truckers’ body, AIMTC has been demanding the government to scrap the toll system. However, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari made it clear that scrapping of toll system is not possible, over which the body decided to go on nation-wide strike from today.

President of AIMTC Bhim Wadhwa said that central government would be responsible for the loss incurred due to the strike by truckers across the country. He added the strike is likely to cause Rs.1500 crore loss to truckers and Rs.10, 000 crore loss to government on daily basis.
