Assembly Elections: Polling begins for 6th Phase in UP, 1st Phase in Manipur

Polling for the sixth phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2017 began this morning. Voting is underway for 49 constituencies in seven districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh. These districts are Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Gorakhpur, Deoria, Azamgarh, Mau and Ballia.

While in Manipur’s first phase voting is taking place for 38 constituencies out of the total 60 constituencies which is spread over six districts. These districts are Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur and Pherzawl.

Polling, which started at 7 AM, will end at 5 PM.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair polls. Indo-Nepal, inter district and inter-state borders have been sealed a day before the election process began.

Around 23.28% of voting has been recorded till 11am in the sixth phase of UP elections, whereas 43% voter turnout has been recorded till 11am in the first phase of Manipur Polls.
