Suresh Prabhu flags off Gatimaan Express – India’s Fastest Train

Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has flagged off India’s fastest train, Gatimaan Express, which would run between Delhi and Agra everyday, except Friday, the day on which Taj Mahal remains closed.

Gatimaan Express, India’s first semi-high speed train, would over 210-km journey between Delhi and Agra in just 100 minutes. It has a maximum speed of 160 km per hour and will operate between Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin station and Agra Cantonment station.

“The launch of this train heralds a new era of high-speed rail travel in India. Railway Minister has been emphasising about increasing the speed of both passenger and goods trains in his budget speeches,” the Railway Ministry statement said.

The Gatimaan Express comprises 2 executive AC chair cars and 8 AC chair car coaches. The fare for an AC chair car seat is Rs 750, while executive AC chair car cost is fixed at Rs 1,500. The train will have hostesses in each compartment and free Wi-Fi facility.
