Basanta Panda is new President of Odisha BJP

Bhubaneswar, Jan 14: Basanta Panda is all set to become the new president of Odisha BJP unit. As per the election schedule of the party shared with media, today is day for filing nomination papers, scrutiny and withdraw of nomination papers. The party has set Jan 15 as date for polling for the post of party president.

As per reports, Basanta Panda is the lone candidate who filed nomination for the post state president during scheduled time today. He filed his nomination papers before party’s returning officer Rajkishore Das at party headquarters with his ten proposers, those singed on the nomination papers.

As per party sources, the officials of the party would make an official announcement about the election and declare the name of new party chief in the state today. Panda represents Nuapada constituency in Odisha Legislative Assembly.

Panda, the BJP legislative party leader in the state assembly, was declared elected uncontested as no one else filed the nomination papers for the top post of the state unit, BJP election officer Rajkishore Das said.

The 54-year-old legislator from Nuapada replaces Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo.

“Being a common worker of the party, I will take everyone with me to strengthen the BJP in the state and fight against the corrupt BJD ruling the state since last 15 years,” Panda said.

He said the welfare programmes initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be highlighted across the state.
Panda has been elected twice to the state assembly in 2000 and 2014.
